This is a 4-day introduction course that will teach students how to make two different blades, using salvaged materials from leaf springs, roller bearings and other qualified steel pieces to make blades.

About the Class:

This 4-day course is designed to serve as a basic, hands-on introduction to the craft of blade-smithing. Instruction will include information on tools and equipment, material selection, body mechanics, design considerations, forging techniques, basic heat-treating principles and finishing methods. This will be a fairly active class, with strong emphasis on student participation, and will involve a healthy amount of heat, noise, sweat, and physical exertion. Each student will start with a segment of high carbon spring steel, and through forging, profiling, beveling, heat treating, and finishing, create their own personal hand-forged blades.

This course will focus on introducing the basics of blacksmithing first – students will learn to blacksmith their own knife from scratch, giving students a great foundation and knowledge of working with scrap metals.

Students will be introduced to metals, heating, forging, hammering techniques, straightening, grinding, shaping, knife and handle making.

Knives will be forge-finished and students will go home with paracord-handle, finished blades.

This class is open to students 18 years old and above, and is limited to 8 students. It is first-come, first-serve. Tuition for this course is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
